Policies

UNIFORMS

NMIS Uniform Policy » In order to promote a climate of learning in the classroom, NMIS requires that students dress in a uniform manner. This includes requirements for tops, bottoms and shoes. To purchase uniform items for tops (shirts/sweaters/jackets), go to www.customoutfitters.com/nmis. Due to copyright protection on our logo, all tops must be purchased through this vendor.

ATTENDANCE

NMIS Attendance Policy » Regular, uninterrupted classroom instruction, classroom participation, and interaction with classmates are essential to the educational process.

LANGUAGE

NMIS Language Policy » One of NMIS’s primary goals is to make multilingual learners. Specifically we offer dual language immersion in English and Spanish, and add direct instruction in Arabic beginning in 4th grade.

ASSESSMENTS

NMIS Assessment Policy » NMIS assesses students in a variety of ways. We assess students three times per year in our interim assessments, as well as end-of-year assessments. Additionally, teachers create authentic assessments for each IB unit to evaluate students’ inquiry skills in each unit.

NON-EMPLOYEE CLEARANCE

NMIS Non-Employee Clearance Policy » NMIS does not allow volunteers on campus without going through a clearance process. Further, visitors on campus are required to sign in via our Raptor System.

NO HOMEWORK

New Mexico International School follows a no homework policy. Additional practice may be assigned by classroom teachers if necessary. However, completion of practice is completely voluntary. Students may need to complete major projects such as Science Fair Projects away from school.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES

Families receive two supply lists per school year. The first is issued in the fall, the second is issued mid-year (around winter break). Please follow the directions on the supply lists. Some items require the child’s name, and some do not require such labeling. Additionally, each supply lists contains information for fees to pay for optional extracurricular field trips.
